February is traditionally the fire season in the Western Cape,

This year is no exception with wildfires raging out of control driven by gale force wind.

It is a sad time when one see the destruction to plant and animal life,

And it makes my blood boil when you hear that some fires have been caused by arsonists,

I cannot understand why someone would deliberately set the land on fire with malicious intention,

Some really sick people out there,

So here is a tribute to our brave firefighters, both on the ground and in the air, busy at containing a plantation fire on the outskirts of Grabouw,

I have the utmost respect for these "Warriors"

Cannot and Give-up are words which do not exist in their vocabulary,

Tenacious, Relentless, Brave and Dedicated are just some of the adjective words to explain their actions.

Wonderful series of the fires! They are very dramatic and dynamic shots. Do you know someone, to get so close?

I am realizing more an more that I have not followed my true passion in life, photography is a tool to capture and express those things which interest me very much,

It give me great pleasure and enjoyment practicing it, but to turn it into a paying career is not that easy.

This is a goal to work towards for me personally,

Thank you again for your interest Barbara...............................
:iconbarcon53:
Yes, there is so much competition in the photography world, or any of the arts, that it is hard to make enough to live on by doing it. It would be such a thrill to get paid for your work, even if only now and then! Or better yet, published! You certainly do wonderful documentary photography of exciting moments. Not just the fires but also the motorcycle races impressed me. I wish you all the best as you work towards your goal and I hope you never lose the passion for it.... :)

:iconetandk:
Thank you for the kind and inspiring words, I will not loose my passion for photography, this I am sure of,

And it is not always about the money either, at this moment I have not made one cent from my images but it brings me joy and satisfaction to practice this discipline, which is priceless...............................
:iconbarcon53:
Oh, I know it's not about the money, but it would be so exciting to get that kind of confirmation! Have you entered any competitions? I think you might well win something...

:iconetandk:
Thank you, no I was just in the right place at the right time.

Was invited as a "freelance photographer" to join the fire fighting team.....................
:iconbarcon53:
When they see the shots you got, they will try harder to persuade you!

:iconsnapcapture:
Of course! I absolutely love your work. I'm completely jealous of the way you can capture these images, and I hope with more practice I can be as good as you. :)
